while writing that i also thought of my utter neglect of my "research blog"

belgian royal palace
was actually not really worth it,
the interior is very open and bare: lots of detailing in the moldings, gold overlay, multiple chandeliers per room (but they were not very sparkly) and so forth actually did not look that tacky.
of interest is the science fair that is going on. in room 1, they had satellite images of the earth, which are actually quite beautiful especially when taken out of context. the us is one of the ugliest countries though because its so industrialized. in room 2, had what resembled a children's hands on museum. i am proud to say that i now know how to distinguish between female and male skeletons.

of the 8 floors, our class only looked at floor 1, so i'm not sure if i have that good of an understanding of the museum as a whole.
anyway, came away with a greater appreciation of jordaens. i tend to no longer be impressed by rubens anymore, but this museum had several drawings done by rubens (to be stored in the workshop for future reference/copying by the workshop workers) and they are wonderful. interesting that these little drawings are probably the most authentically by rubens especially when compared to the huge altarpieces.
the museum is constructed in kind of an open atrium type of way (like the stock exchange), so that if you turn around while viewing a painting, you can see across the floor to a different gallery of paintings. it kind of heightens the experience, which is allowed by the monumental size of these paintings. nice job architects.
after viewing this museum, i have decided that in my future house, i would like a HUGE painting of the tower of babel (after what style still undecided).
