well sustainability is one thing, but we can't just keep these things stagnant, don't we need some type of innovation to keep this going
making the course an organization would be one of doing that
...and partnering with fuqua [!!]

8/22, story as told to wayne

i was walking to lab this morning and noticed that this oldish ww2 veteran (as deduced from his hat) was looking at me. "what are you taking?" he asked in a not-quite greeting, and i was like "what?" and then his daughter (middle aged woman) asked "what is your major?"

and so this went on for 5 minutes or so with this guy hollering questions at me and i answering back and the daughter somewhat translating between by softening out the edges of his questions and yelling my answers back to him so he could hear me clearer.

finally, he looked as his daughter and said "you know, i can hear her just fine"

and so this got me thinking. of what exactly, im not sure. i think...
1. something lost in the translation of me to the man through his daughter, which i could directly observe as she truncated or altered my responses -- so maybe the power of words?
2. helplessness of aging is projected?
3. is it really taboo to be curious...about strangers?
