7) sweeney todd

watched w/ edward. totally wasn't expecting to like this movie, but somehow it turned out pretty good. the music was good even though i had heard some things about how it was dark. ironically, thought the worst song was the one that johanna sang. the storyline was pretty solid, not so much the count of monte cristo-ness but the ending was kind of redemptive and i guess the viewer feels justified. brought up an interesting theme that no one is innocent/everyone deserves to die.

i guess important to note is that musicals have always held a special place in my heart.

8) das leben der anderen (the lives of others)

watched w/ jack and dfan. hmm, what i enjoyed the most about this is the stoic transformation of the stasi officer. brings to question the interesting question of the importance of romantic relationships in relation to other ambitions, friendships, and other such things. i'd say that i'm still in kind of a strange mood for romantic movies and would say that at this point in my life, would not see that anyone should choose their sig other over their career/ideals. but in a weird detached way, realize the fallacy of such thinking and look forward to the day when i will think differently.

also watched recently: the orphanage (1/2 before i got freaked out w/ jack & james), i am legend (w/ jack), hairspray (w/ yatyng & lily), pan's labyrinth (w/ jack & dfan), stardust, once (nancy & oreo), ps i love you (jack, yatyng, scotty, & james)
